IGN has a juicy exclusive today — Activision is publishing a game based on The Walking Dead. Head to IGN to see the teaser trailer, as the video is currently not embeddable.
“But I thought Telltale was doing the Walking Dead game,” I hear you say. “It’s really popular and it’s written by Book of Eli scribe Gary Whitta.” That is all true. But as Telltale’s FAQ notes, their adventure game is based on the original comic license, whereas Activision’s first-person action game is based on the AMC TV series and its characters. The game follows brothers Daryl and Merle Dixon in the early days of the outbreak, and it looks like the first-person combat/stealth game will include some interesting party decisions — the characters you meet and possibly ally yourself with may or may not help you as you try to survive.
The game is being developed by Terminal Reality, the folks behind two of my gory guilty pleasures, BloodRayne and Roadkill, as well as my personal choice for best-licensed-fan-service-game-ever, Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Right now the release date is just the amorphous 2013, so…give it some time.
